Q. I'm supposed to do an assignment dealing with political platforms. I've been doing online reading. Just let me know if I've got it right. A political platform is basically and document written up by or for a politician stating where they stand on issues such as pro-life or anti-war.

A. More or less. A political platform is basically on outline of the beliefs that a candidate or party intends to focus on. For example, Conservatives focus on low spending and low taxes, and strong national defense. Democrats focus on a safety net for economic hard times, environmental protection, and a focus on equal opportunity for everyone. It doesn't really go into the specifics overall, just a basic overview.

Why is the pulpit most often used as a political platform?

Pro free market, but with the understanding that the free market needs to have rules and regulations and watchdogs to prevent abuse, crime and corruption. For the most part, they will try to represent the actual views of their constituents via extensive polling. So you would never have a situation where 65% of the people who the lawmaker represents want something and he votes no etc.. In other words, pro the people's wishes and views.
