Am I right on what a political platform is?
Q. I'm supposed to do an assignment dealing with political platforms. I've been doing online reading. Just let me know if I've got it right. A political platform is basically and document written up by or for a politician stating where they stand on issues such as pro-life or anti-war.
Asked by Jonathan D - Mon Apr 6 21:20:51 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. More or less. A political platform is basically on outline of the beliefs that a candidate or party intends to focus on. For example, Conservatives focus on low spending and low taxes, and strong national defense. Democrats focus on a safety net for economic hard times, environmental protection, and a focus on equal opportunity for everyone. It doesn't really go into the specifics overall, just a basic overview.

Why is the pulpit most often used as a political platform?
Q. Whether a minister is liberal or conservative, I have rarely been to a church service where a political message didn't dominate the sermon. I just go to church to meet divorced moms, so I don't appreciate being indoctrinated with their democratic or republican hogwash.

A. Ah, you are speaking of American churches. In 30 years of going to British churches I can count on two hands the number of political messages I've heard, but none of them suggested any one political party was better than another! Mind you, anybody familiar with God's preachers in the Old Testament would admit that they preached totally political sermons. Just read Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum and Zephaniah. And Jesus was revolutionary in His political statements! He was in danger of being lumped with the Zealots, such was His concern for the political issues of the day, especially as they related to poor people. It is just as Dom Helder Camara said, "When I give food to the poor they… [cont.]

What was President William Jefferson Clinton's political platform in seeking the White House?
Q. What were some of positive and some negative accomplishments of his political career.
Asked by Joanna J - Sat May 12 16:40:17 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Now for something that answers the question without the political bias... Clinton's platform was a refocused effort on the economy, which had not been doing well in returning to a peacetime economy after the first Gulf War. He had pretty basic Democratic stances: pro-choice, demand-side economic policies and fairly moderate views overall on other issues. He was a southerner and appealed to many in the South, and he brought back many "Reagan Democrats" to the party. Positives: Family and Medical Leave Act for pregnant women/new mothers/fathers, Brady Bill, NAFTA, GATT, welfare reform, raised taxes on top 1.5% wealthiest people and cut taxes for 15 million poor people and 90% of small businesses, generally good economy, Oslo agreements… [cont.]

What was the political platform of the American Whig Party from 1825- when they went kaput? ?
Q. Specifically on economic policies. Do they differ in any way from the Republican Party founded on 1854 besides not all Whigs were opposed to slavery?
Asked by pjkondorpoduszlo - Wed Dec 10 21:35:27 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Wikipedia article gives good info about Whig economic policies. Note that slavery was not an issue that brought about the Whig party; it is the issue that divided and destroyed it, because they didn't agree on the issue, and the issue was a big one at the time, especially with regard to expansion and whether slavery would be allowed in new states/territories. The Republican Party was established out of opposition to expansion of slavery into Kansas. Their economic policies resembled those of the Whigs.

A. The best place to find all of the candidates platforms is there individual websites, but that will be complete with spin and hype about that candidate, and may become difficult to understand their weaknesses. Instead I recommend that you go to glassbooth.org. There you can tell it what issues are most important to you, and where you stand on each of those issues. They will ask you several questions about where you stand on the issues that matter to you, with no questions about issues you don't care about, and then it will tell you what candidate is most similar to you. In addition you can look up each candidates position on all issues, based off of their quotes and their voting record- NO HYPE- NO BIAS.

How do I begin a pro the people political party? whose platform is very very clear?
Q. For the most part, their policy positions will simply be capitalism, but not to excess where its no longer capitalism and more fascism than anything else. Pro free market, but with the understanding that the free market needs to have rules and regulations and watchdogs to prevent abuse, crime and corruption. For the most part, they will try to represent the actual views of their constituents via extensive polling. So you would never have a situation where 65% of the people who the lawmaker represents want something and he votes no etc.. In other words, pro the people's wishes and views.

A. 1. My opponents which are the Democrats, they have some strange ideas about raising taxes. To them, raising taxes, and Joe Biden said it, raising taxes is about patriotism. To the rest of America, that's not patriotism. Raising taxes is about killing jobs and hurting small businesses and making things worse. This isn't about anyone's patriotism, it's about Barack Obama's poor judgement. The wealthy should not get higher taxes just because they make good money, their hard working money or anyone that works hard should not get their money away. So basically Low taxes are the way to go. 2.
